Wie jedes Jahr befinden sich unter unseren Gästen Organisatoren eines befreundeten Festivals, welches dem Videofestival in bestimmten Features ähnelt. In diesem Jahr dürfen wir das Italienische Festival Magma begrüßen und freuen uns auf ihre Präsentation
am Samstagmorgen während des traditionellen Videobrunchs.

Der Kulturverein Scarti wurde 2001 von einer
Gruppe sizilianischer Studenten gegründet. Das Ziel war die Förderung von Videos. 2002 organisierte der Verein das „Magma – mostra di cinema breve“, ein Festival für Kurzfilme mit einer deutlich internationalen Ausrichtung. In bisher sechs Jahren Tätigkeit sammelte Magma Werke aus der ganzen Welt: 73 Länder haben bisher teilgenommen. Bis heute wurden auf den Veranstaltungen von Magma bereits etwa 1650 Werke präsentiert und 290 Kurzfilme angeboten. Das Festival hat über 7000 registrierte Einträge, Hosting-Direktoren aus Frankreich, Palästina, Belgien, Dänemark, Japan, Australien, Thailand, England, Spanien, Puerto Rico, Italien, Türkei, Holland, Deutschland, Litauen, Portugal, Norwegen, Indien, Finnland, USA, Rumänien oder Ungarn. Im Gegensatz zu den großen italienischen Festivals hat Magma die Aufmerksamkeit
immer ausschließlich auf die kurze Form des Videos gerichtet, welche als eigenständige Kunstform Raum gibt, in dem mit neuen Stilen experimentiert wird oder sich neue Trends entwickeln. Dabei erstreckt sich das Spektrum an Autoren vom unausgebildeten Hobbyfilmer bis hin zu bereits etablierten Regisseuren.

Im Gegensatz zu fast allen anderen europäischen Ländern leidet der Kurzfilm in Italien immer noch unter dem unerklärlichen Vorurteil, dass er weniger wichtig als Langspielfilme sei. Dadurch ist eine Distribution schwierig. Magma hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, eine Gelegenheit zu bieten, Aufmerksamkeit
für dieses Medium zu schaffen. Eine Brücke zwischen Autoren und Publikum, welches in den letzten Jahren eine Leidenschaft und eine besondere Sensibilität für das Kino in Kürze entdeckt und entwickelt, wird durch Magma errichtet.

Traditionally, every year, the International Videofestival invites a partner festival, with which it shares certain features, to present itself among the guests and participants.
This year, we are happy to welcome the Italian festival Magma and are looking forward to its presentation on saturday morning at the Videobrunch.

In 2001 a group of sicilian students founded Scarti, a cultural association supporting and promoting video art. Already the next year “Magma - mostra di cinema breve“, a short film festival with an international outlook, was instituted. Within the six years since its inception, Magma collected works from all over the world, from participants from a total of 73 different countries. More than 1600 works have been screened; about 290 short films have been presented. All in all, the festival received more than 7000 registered entries, hosting directors from such diverse countries as France, Palestine, Belgium, Denmark, Japan, Australia, Thailand, the UK, Spain, Puerto Rico, Italy, Turkey, Holland, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal, Norway, India, Finland, the United States, Romania and Hungary.

In contrast to the bigger Italian festivals Magmas focus always lay on the short video and saw it as a separate art form allowing the experimentation with new styles and the creation of new trends. This is also evidenced by the spectrum of authors: Everyone from first-time amateur to established director is represented. For reasons unknown, the Italian art community still harbors the prejudice of the short film being less important than
longer formats. In this difficult position Magma presents an alternative creating attention for the medium and aiding its distribution. Building bridges from authors to audience the festival creates a special sensibility for the short forms of cinema, leading to increased appreciation and even passion for this art form by the spectators.
